Dr. JayAnna Byrd grew up in Rusk, Texas. After graduating as valedictorian from Rusk High School, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston. She then attended the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she graduated in the top 5% of her class with highest honors, summa cum laude. Dr. Byrd was elected by the Dean to serve on the Academic Committee during her last two years, was awarded multiple Letters of Clinical Excellence while in school, and received a national contact lens award during her final year. She was voted by her peers as "most likely to break the test curve."
During her training she worked inside numerous specialty clinics. Dr. Byrd took part in caring for patients inside Neuro-optometric Rehabilitation Service, a clinic dedicated to post-stroke patients and those with traumatic brain injuries. She also conducted dry eye exams in the state-of-the-art Dry Eye Center in Houston.
Dr. Byrd eagerly joined Gold Eye Clinic as soon as she graduated in 2014. She loves practicing in her native East Texas community and feels incredibly blessed to have the privilege of taking care of people she has known since childhood. She performs thorough, comprehensive medical eye exams for all ages and diagnoses and treats glaucoma, as well as many other ocular diseases. Dr. Byrd does diabetic exams, fits specialty contact lenses, provides emergency eye care, and co-manages numerous surgeries with our ophthalmologists.
Dr. Byrd lives near Lake Palestine with her husband, Caleb, also a native East Texan, their precious daughter Anna-Kate, and their beloved Golden retriever, Colt. She looks forward to continuing to be a part of the Gold Eye Clinic family for years to come!
