Dr. Sands is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 40 years of experience treating both medical
and surgical eye conditions. He has enjoyed private practice in East Texas for most of his career until
2019 when he joined the Texas Tech Health Sciences Department of ophthalmology as faculty associate
professor instructing ophthalmology residents for two years, followed by three years at the Lubbock VA
eye clinic as staff ophthalmologist.

Currently in his new role at the Gold Eye clinic Ennis office, Dr. Sands has limited his practice to medical
office ophthalmology only. Patients who require intraocular eye surgery will be expeditiously referred to
the appropriate surgical ophthalmologist. He will also provide in office minor surgical procedures for
styes, chalazia, and skin “tag” excisions and corneal foreign body removal. Routine soft contact lens
services will be available for acceptable candidates.

Dr. Sands and his wife Mona enjoy time with their 3 children and 12 grandchildren. His hobbies have
included gardening and fishing.
